With a pail of mixed feelings in hand, I’ve decided I will no longer frequent one of my favorite restaurants here in Newport Beach. After regularly enjoying the ambience, service and great food for the eight years I have lived in this area, their recent change to a “no reservations” policy has left me feeling that I have to work too hard to spend my money there. I tried to negotiate a workaround with them which they made a decent attempt to accommodate, but after a couple weeks or so, I realized that their decision to implement a one size fits all approach, which caters to the masses more than it does to loyal regulars like me, left me disappointed and then, as the cliché goes, “over it.”
While I won’t pretend it doesn’t sting having to relinquish a true home away from home, I am also quite aware that this truly is one of those “first world problems,” so to speak. And I must say that branching out has been really great. I have been to three new spots recently, all of which were tasty, fun and hip. In fact, in a coming edition of YourSALutations, I’ll share more details when I recommend them for you!
